Recently, our family went to Medellín, Colombia, and it has been by far one of our best trips! The city is vibrant, colorful, and full of fun activities for kids of all ages. If you’re planning a trip to Medellín with your children, here are some top spots you shouldn’t miss. These places are not only fun but also offer educational experiences that will enrich your kids’ understanding of science, nature, and culture!

Parque Explora: A Science Adventure

Parque Explora is a must-visit for families! This interactive science museum is filled with exhibits that will spark your kids’ curiosity. There are hands-on displays about physics, biology, and technology. The aquarium, with its diverse range of marine life, is a big hit with children. They can learn about different ecosystems and the importance of protecting our oceans. Also don’t miss the vivarium, where kids can see reptiles and amphibians up close. We were there for about 3 to 4 hours and still didn’t get to explore the entire museum so plan to spend your day or half a day here!

Jardín Botánico: A Green Oasis

For a breath of fresh air and a break from the city’s hustle and bustle, head to the Jardín Botánico. This botanical garden is a peaceful retreat with over 1,000 species of plants. It’s a great place for kids to learn about the environment and the importance of biodiversity. The butterfly house is particularly enchanting, with colorful butterflies fluttering around. There’s also a lake where you can enjoy a relaxing boat ride. To our surprise, iguanas roam free around the premises so be on the look out! Also, stop by In Situ, the Gardens restaurant. The food was delicious and the views were amazing as it’s an open concept restaurant.

University of Antioquia: A Peek into Higher Learning

A visit to the University of Antioquia can be a fascinating experience for kids of all ages! The university’s campus is beautiful and offers a glimpse into Colombia’s higher education system. Check out the university’s museum, which has interesting exhibits on anthropology, art, and natural history, some of where are interactive. It’s a great way for kids to learn about Colombian culture and history.

Cable Car Ride: A Sky-High Adventure

One of the most exciting ways to see Medellín is from above. The city’s cable car system, known as Metrocable, offers stunning views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Kids will love the adventure of riding high above the city. The cable car ride is not only fun but also educational, as you can see how different neighborhoods are connected and learn about the city’s geography.
